Some of you have requested that Hoyt and I step back up to the mic and sing a little. Well, your wish is our command! We have written, arranged, composed, and recorded a brand new dance song for you this week. The track is called "Turn on the Night" and it would be best described as 90s Eurodance. If you like your Candy Apple Blue on the fun upbeat side, your in for a real treat. More details to soon follow. ~ Carly
The story behind the making of the music video for Taking It to Heart.
The music video was shot and edited during the onset of the Coronavirus outbreak. At first, we were at odds with putting out a new song during this difficult international crisis. We sought out the opinion of the people in our inner circle and they all told us that it was a tasteful decision to release it. Together we ultimately decided to put out our new song because we felt it had a nice calming and relaxing vibe to it.
We knew that the song would fair better with a proper music video. However, social distancing was now being advised by our nation. So that put us in a tough spot. We came up with the idea that Apollo Rogers could film the segments in Canton, Ohio on his end and we could edit them together here on our end here in Pittsburgh, PA. It would keep us all artistically busy if only for a little while.
The end result (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps0DXBHhFIs) became an abstract sort of statement about emotional healing, alternative medicine, physical fitness, and mental well being. Here are some of the raw video clips that we used to make the magic happen. These clips are set to the beautiful a cappella version of Taking It to Heart sung by Apollo with so much heart.

The reviews for Taking It to Heart from our inner circle have been really wonderful:
"It's an absolutely delicious dreamy synth-pop ballad, with another stunning vocal from Apollo Rogers! Another triumph!" ~ Bazz Energy Express
"I LOVE THE TRACK! It reminds me of something Alison Moyet would have sung on ALF." ~ William Schrul of The Divys
"I love this! Shades of Roxette with some Teri Nunn thrown in for good measure." ~ MyFizzyPop
"It conjures up the same retro emotions as Berlin's Take My Breath Away from the Top Gun Soundtrack." ~ Alexander Storm
"Another fantastic one. I shall spin this on my show." ~ The Retro Nouveau
"I’m suddenly 20 again!!!" ~ Fred from France

Verse 1:
Can you tell me where to go when the road comes to an end?
Cause you told me that it's over, as the highway twists and bends
If only I knew how to lie, then at least I'd have a choice
But the truth is masquerading in the silence of my voice
Lead-In 1:
And I feel just a little bit lost as we suddenly drift apart
Cause you can't take back the words you said so I'm taking it to heart
I'm taking it to heart, you better believe that I'm taking it to heart
Chorus (Middle 8 Section):
Cause all the promises have been broken
I've been brutally awakened by your heartless and your cold goodbye
I was planning for eternal bliss, been deceived by your wicked kiss
You can tell me that you never meant to hurt me as I'm breaking apart
But ooh ooh, I'm taking it to heart, I said ooh, I'm taking it to heart
Lead-In 2:
You said that the two of us are over and you're gonna make a brand new start
No, you can't, take back the words you said so I'm taking it to heart
I'm taking it to heart, you better believe that I'm taking it to heart
(Repeat Chorus)
Ad-lib:
Taking it, taking it to heart now,
I've learned my lesson and I'm moving on right now
Taking it to heart, taking it to heart, taking it to heart
No, you can't take it back
Ending:
ooh ooh, I'm taking it to heart, I said ooh, I'm taking it to heart

Candy Apple Blue has once again teamed up with Juno Dreams to bring you a classy and classic retro 80s styled synthwave remix of their new indie single, Dancing in the Shadows.
Stepping up to the mic this time is Pittsburgh's own Barry Brayleo whom Carly had met in a karaoke bar after attending a Cher concert earlier this year. Whispers in the Wind is the new single taken from the forthcoming Candy Apple Blue album, Second Sight. The composition addresses drug addiction, regret, rumors, and self-realization. The lyric video pays homage to famous celebrities who died from a drug overdose. These talented people had a very real problem with substance abuse which ultimately ended their lives too soon. Its melancholy message is a tragic cautionary tale delivered with a retro 1980s dance beat. Its musical roots are inspired by the early 80s new wave synth-pop bands of the era. The song features a smooth, cool, and haunting vocal performance by Norway's Espen Kraft.
It Happens All the Time is the first single taken from the forthcoming Candy Apple Blue album, Second Sight. The song features a smooth, cool, and haunting lead vocal performance by Norway's Espen Kraft. Its musical roots are planted firmly in the mid-1980s. The song is a sophisticated slice of uptown high-quality synth-pop inspired by the electronic/new wave bands of the era. The music videos focus is on an eccentric fortune-teller who uses his powers of prophecy to put Candy Apple Blue under his spell and to help them gain insight into their lives. He uses tarot cards, the Magic 8 Ball, Louisiana Voodoo (Vodou), and astrology to help the band solve their problems. The character role of the medium in touch with the spirit world is deliciously played by Antonio Licon.

Mistake is an italo-disco track that we composed and released back in the fall of 2012. We put out various mixes of the song during that time (i.e. original demo version, 12" extended version, piano intro version). We even shot two music videos for it. However, we had to can the first on because of poor lighting conditions. There is also an acoustic piano jazz rendition of song performed by J.T. Gralka which can be heard here on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPvZ30nSfv0
The song was still getting attention for us back in 2014 so we went ahead and had it professionally remastered by Eric Boulanger at The Mastering Lab. Eric is now the founder of his own sound studio called The Bakery. Be sure to check him out here: https://thebakery.la/mastering-engineer/eric-boulanger/ His newly mastered version of Mistake sounded better than ever to us so we went ahead and re-released it then.
So here we are today in the fall of 2017. Five years after it's initial indie release, we've noticed that once again 'Mistake' was still doing pretty good for us on Spotify. Often placing on our TOP 5 popular songs list. Because of the songs popularity, it became pretty clear to us that we should just go ahead and re-release the music video with the remastered audio track.
We proudly present to you the official remastered HD music video for 'Mistake'. It may have taken us five years to get here but we think it was worth the wait.
"The cream has risen to the top! Our third studio album, Powers Activate will include ten original songs plus 4 remixes! Instead of putting out an album the traditional way and then releasing singles, we've been doing it backwards and releasing the singles first to see how well they are received and to determine what songs should be included on the actual album. It's a bit of a trial and error process that really works for us as an indie band. It's been three years in the making and it's coming soon!" ~ Carly Emerick
