The Ritual of Getting Ready

The ritual of getting ready to go out for a night on the town was just as important to me as the actual night itself. I would take my time, pop in my favorite Dead or Alive or Madonna CD, and pamper myself.

The room always smelled of my favorite Chanel fragrance, makeup, and bubble bath. On this particular night, I spent over 2 hours doing my hair. (And yes, that's my own hair, thanks to a Clairol product called "Born Blonde".) Looking back on it now, I might have overdone my lipstick application. But I always used to say that "too much is never enough." Making a bold statement was important to me.

The year was 1993, and I was 19 years old. And let me tell you, looking like this, I never got carded! ~ Hoyt
