Going Down In La-La Land (Original Theme Song)

THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC:
__________________________________________________________

In early 2010, Indie NYC film producer Casper Andreas contacted us about the possibility of composing the theme song for his upcoming screen adaptation of "Going Down in La La Land". His latest theatrical movie was going to be based on the novel written by Andy Zeffer.

Because of the success of his film "Between Love & Goodbye" and our involvement with the soundtrack, we couldn't help but to indulge once again. It was a huge compliment for us as songwriters to be approached like this and we were thrilled!

It didn't take long to dig deep with personal reflection and write the very first line... "Driving through my life invisible red lights have always tried to slow me down." It was a little scary for us, sitting down to compose this piece, because it was the first new song we wrote after taking a 7 year hiatus.

We produced about four different versions of this song. All of which were submitted but not approved. Mr. Andreas told us loved the song, however, he wanted something a little more upbeat with a faster tempo to end his movie with.

Running short on time and experiencing ear fatigue, we immediately contacted electropop recording artist, SIRPAUL. We needed a fresh production ear on this song and fast! With only a 24 hour deadline to place the song, SIRPAUL confidently stepped in and rose to the challenge! One day later, his stellar dance remix of "Going Down In La-La Land" was excitedly approved by Mr. Andreas! It was exactly what he was looking for! Hooray!

We wanted to shine a light both versions of the song. We are very proud of both productions and wanted give you the behind the scenes story.
So, without further adieu, here is both our own very special release of "Going Down In La-La Land" along with the stellar dance floor classic SIRPAUL version.

Thanks always for your love & continued support of our little band project Candy Apple Blue. ~ Sincerely, Hoyt & Carly

Carly's T-Shirt Mishap?

Carly's got "All The Will In The World"

I got a lot of slack recently from our in-house management team for showing up wearing this Blondie “Call Me” A-Shirt to our promo photo shoot. Once again we were accused of “promoting” an outside artist's brand. Ratts-ola!

Hoyt was getting pretty good too at sporting some pretty awesome vintage tee’s in our promotional videos and photos. He used to wear The Cars, The Cure, and Joan Jett. Well, now it was my turn to bring shame to the Candy Apple Blue camp. A girl just wants to have fun? Okay, admitting, I guess I should have known better but when I saw this old Blondie A-shirt hanging in my closet with its screaming fuchsia color I just couldn’t resist it!

So am I promoting Candy Apple Blue, Blondie’s Debbie Harry "Call Me" song, or pink fuchsia? Possibly all three?

Admittedly, at this early stage in our career, it doesn’t make much sense to wear another band's brand or logo on our bodies. In my mind's eye, I thought that if Britney could wear a Madonna tee then I should be able to wear a Blondie one. It's a funny comparison. Meanwhile, in reality, I couldn't even get arrested!

The truth is that our management team is right and I’m very grateful for their input, guidance, and feedback. Special “Thank you” to Alexander Storm Management and MK Kim for setting us on the right path!

How did it end? I decided that I'd show them and I just took my shirt off! Photo below.

Love & laughs, Carly Emerick

My revenge was to take my Blondie T-Shirt off!

All The Will In The World

Candy Apple Blue

"Catchy & melodic, heart felt lyrics and great vocal deliveries! "

Never missing a beat, we have released our second single this month! It is a wonderful little bubble gum pop record that we are so proud of!

We had very little time to come up for air in the month of May. We are excited to announce just how well our new single, "All The Will In The World", has been received. Some saying "it's our best production work yet", "sounds very 80's like i adore, great job!", "new old school 80's that's new again but still sounds old school, how confusing in short... awesome sauce", "it's just awesome!", "real catchy tune", "I just can't help smiling at the lead melody", "nice and poppy great production" and so many more.

We are very thankful that, in only it's third day of release, the purchase link has had over 80 people share it & hit the "like" button on facebook. Purchase Link

We wrote this new synthpop song from a very selfish place. Obviously throwing out current day music production trends and going back to, where in our minds, all the good music came from... yes the 1980s!

So far... It's been compared to some early Madonna records like "Think Of Me", Regina 's "Baby Love" and even Alisha 's "Baby Talk". Someone even told us it has a slight Missing Persons "Right Now" sound quality to it. All HUGE compliments to us.

So we will be filming yet another classic "no budget" music video for this one too. We have a lot of great ideas for it. Now let's just see if we can execute them on film. More news on the video to soon follow.

As always thanks for being so supportive of our music and our little band project.

A million smiles, Carly

PS. We would like to send a huge shout out to MK iMagery for his brilliant & vibrant single cover artwork!

Candy Apple Blue - Tricks by Candy Apple Blue

Thank you for stopping by! We just wrapped up production on our latest single "Tricks". We really went for that classic retro 80's good time fun song! We had a blast recording & writing this song. We really hope you enjoy it! We are in the mix now of throwing around some video ideas! Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

What the 45 Record would look like!

Matt Pop Candy Apple Blue Matt Mix

Graveyard (Matt Pop's Single Mix) by CandyAppleBlue

Graveyard (Matt Pop’s Single Mix)

Matt Pop Candy Apple Blue Graveyard

Graveyard (Matt Pop's Single Mix) by CandyAppleBlue

We welcome you back to the Graveyard!

Make no mistake about it, Matt Pop is the new Dr. Luke! His breathtaking top-notch production skills have gained him the attention of some pretty major players in the music industry. Most notably, Matt has done official remixes for pop sensation Kylie Minogue. He’s also recently worked with Rupaul on his popular RuPaul’s Drag Race Soundtrack. His official YouTube channel, MattPopOfficial, has a huge fan base with some pretty die-hard followers.

When we first heard what Matt Pop did with “Graveyard” we were utterly floored. I turned to Hoyt and was literally picking my jaw up off the floor. I had goose bumps. It felt like someone had just told me I hit the lottery. As the music magically poured out of the speakers, the sound went straight to my heart. I was in love. Matt Pop single handedly made Candy Apple Blue shine brighter than we ever have on our own. This must be the same feeling Gwen Stefani had when she first heard what producer Matthew Wilder did with her song “Don't Speak”. What relief it was for us as singer / songwriters to have someone else come in and breath new life into one of our songs. It is the most profound feeling.

Matt heroically threaded together many different flavors of pop music into this new production. It’s the perfect blend of then and now! It sounds to me like Romeo Void, Strawberry Switchblade, Voice Of The Beehive, La Roux, Goldfrapp, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Duran Duran all in a blender. But you be the judge.

We feel Matt Pop did what producer Alan Tarney did for Aha's smash hit single "Take On Me". If you know the songs history, Tony Mansfield (Naked Eyes, The B-52's) actually produced the first release of their song, which failed to chart. It wasn't until Alan Tarney stepped in and breathed new life into the song that it became a major hit record.

After listening to both versions of Graveyard back to back, it became clear to us that ours sounded more like a demo recording. With a renewed passion for the song, Matt encouraged us to re-edit the original music video with this new version. He thought the graveyards filmed in the video had a certain “Burtonesque” flare. With this newfound excitement, Hoyt & I wanted to include some extra scenes and some bonus film footage in its second release. We thought by adding more to it, the music video would be more fun for the people who might have already seen it the first time around.

Graveyard is now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon MP3, or your other favorite digital download music store.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who have supported our music over the past year. We have noticed and we are very appreciative of your time.

Welcome back to the Graveyard! ~ Carly Emerick
